Marilyn Yu, voted Best APA Designer in the Bay Area by Asian Week readers, is an artist and clothing designer based in San Francisco. She launched her clothing line, plutonium, in 1999 specializing in custom clothes and costumes. Her clothing is whimsical, dramatic, fun to wear, and environmentally friendly, made of natural fibers (mainly hemp). She has made costumes for the various theaters and artists including, Encore Theater, Theater of Yugen, (a)eromestiza, e-mael.

In 2007 she decided to take her work in a new direction. Bridging traditional art genres, Marilyn is collaborating with several other Bay Area artists to create a picture-book using the aesthetic of conceptual fashion-photography. She is collaborating with photographers Norma Cordova and Angela DeCenzo, artist Stephani Martinez, and featuring Jenny Allford on a book that will come out Halloween 2009. "Relations that Suck: The Story of Eva and Dries" is short story illustrated with 35 photos. Living in a world that doesn’t appreciate them, a couple of misfits, a creative vampire who likes people and a traveling spider who disdains web-spinning, form a friendship built on complimentary dysfunctions.
